United Way Event!!

Ray Ray's Afternoon at United Way!!

Getting to cook for folks is why we do what we do, but when you add cooking for a great cause, well then we are over the moon. Terri Janison from United Way of Southern Nevada called us to cater an event they were having last week so we went into creative overdrive.  It had to be a bit different, colorful and of course, delicious.

They decided on Raybolis (Ray Ray's invention - delicious pastry baked with 4 kinds of meats and 3 different cheeses and then sliced.  It is good cold or hot) , Capreze Skewers (cherry tomatoes with the freshest basil and marinated mozzarella with drizzled balsamic vinegar), fruit (there must be pineapple and this time we found some fabulous melons along with grapes, blackberries and strawberries) and of course lemon bars!!

The strawberries were too beautiful not show off alone, so I found a crystal vase just for them.
It has to look just right, don't you think?

I love finding containers to present our food that is just a little bit unusual.  After we had everything set up and right before we left I overheard some folks say how wonderful everything looked!  Nothing makes me happier, because it is our goal to not only fill empty stomachs but to make people feel special.  Especially when they don't expect it.    My grandmother was always the one to "set a nice table".  She felt food had lots of responsibilities, it not only had to taste good, but how it looked was her personal statement and if that meant a silver platter or a crystal dish then lets do it!!  She never saved anything for a special occasion.  If you were having dinner at her house then it was a special occasion!

Knowing there are great people out there like Terri Janison leading our community by way of United Way is a real comfort.  As you read their mission statement you will be reminded how interdependent we are on each other.  And since nothing makes us feel better than serving, United Way is a vehicle to make that happen.  If you want to volunteer your time and aren't completely sure how call them!  I have added their contact number to my page.

This is the mission statement of United Way...
United Way of Southern Nevada works to advance the common good through our focus on education, health and financial stability, the building blocks of a good life.  We recruit people and organizations from all around the community who bring the passion, expertise and resources needed to get things done.  Together, person by person, we can make lasting change.
